Work Search Success: Have a Possibility Mindset

Do you believe that you will actually find the right work, make an important career change or thrive as an entrepreneur? Do you see that you have the potential to achieve your most valued goals? When you stop believing in possibility, you lose interest and the motivation to persevere. As a basic belief - do you see your success as possible?

What is your possibility mindset?

Take a moment to reflect on this question. Given time, informed effort and effective outreach, do you feel you will achieve your goals? How you view that possibility is at the heart of the probability.

Belief in possibility sets expectations

Belief in possibility gives you the courage to go the distance. You’re more hopeful. You have the resolve to pursue dreams that seem quite out of reach today. Without any expectations of fulfilling your goals, you have little motivation to try.

Norman Vincent Peale wisely advised, “No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see the possibilities – always see them, for they’re always there.”

Tip: During those times when it’s difficult for you to hold possibility, entrust it to someone who has your best interest at heart. Friends, family, colleagues and professionals have confidence in you, appreciate your talent and recognize your potential for growth. Ask your support circle to help you see the possibilities during those trying moments when you can’t see them yourself.

How to realize possibility

It’s a real trust issue.

1. Be open and receptive to discovering new options. Stay alert to opportunities. They may come in surprising packages.

2. Call it a goal, vision, dream, objective or endgame, define a clear destination. Starting with the goal firmly in mind and then working backwards to plan is often helpful.

3. Revisit and recommit to the real purpose of your goal—both intellectually and emotionally. Reconnecting with your vision on an emotional level energizes you and helps you stay focused.

4. Actively do what you need to do every day to move forward. Identify your prospects, produce quality personal marketing materials that present your value, build your network.

Pursue your dreams with a possibility mindset. Don’t be dissuaded by self-doubt, the daily news or someone’s gloomy point of view. Value your goals. Know that they are achievable given time, focused effort, creativity and persistence. Don’t give up!

Everything works out in the end. If it’s not worked out, it’s not the end. -unknown

Today’s question

Do you have the possibility mindset that you’ll achieve your work life goals?
